The Basic Succulent Guide
Trending in magazines and households alike are succulents. One might ask, what are succulents? Well, succulents are uniquely shaped cactus-like plants which require very low maintenance resulting in its rapid popularity throughout the world.
While having similar traits to the cacti family, it has one of the most diverse range of different species available, making it occasionally hard to identify between two close specimens. Succulents are easy to upkeep and allows for endless possibilities for DIY projects without requiring any special skills.

Creating your very own first succulent garden!
Materials:
- Container of your choice
- Soil Mixture for Cactus/Succulents
- Tiny Pebbles for drainage/base
- Moss/Charcoal for filtration
- Decorative Moss/Coloured Sand/Rocks or Pebbles
Steps:
- Chose the container for your first succulent garden? Start with filling a low layer of tiny pebbles.
- Follow up with a mixed layer of charcoal and moss, with a third layer of soil mixture.
- Place the succulents in your desired layout and plant them.
- Finish up with some decorative moss, coloured sand, rocks or pebbles amongst your succulents to give it an extra flare.
- Want to take it a step further? Try adding miniature figurines or glass stones to get a special look!
Caring for your succulent garden:
One of the main causes of succulent death is overwatering. The main rule of thumb is to water the succulent once a week, ensuring that the soil is moist to touch but not soaked.
The second cause will be direct sunlight. While they do well in both indoor and outdoor conditions, succulents prefer bright filtered light and not direct sunlight over a long period of time.
Additionally, there are succulents that lose their hue depending on the climate. This will be further explained in our next article!
